Joy to the world. The NSW Government has just announced a temporary relaxation the lockout laws on the night Mardi Gras! It follows surmounting media, council, and public pressure on Sydney’s Premier – Gladys Berejiklian to do so.

On Saturday the 3rd, venues in the areas surrounding the parade – such as Oxford St, Darlinghurst Rd, and South Dowling St will be able to let punters in and out their venues from 1:30am and beyond. However, alcohol serving times will stay put, ceasing at 3am.

Whilst we’re locked in on the fact that the lockouts should be permanently removed, we’re also sliding major props to the Government for this particular act – because it’s a respectful nod to this Mardi Gras being the first since marriage equality has been achieved in Australia. Notably, this weekend will also mark four whole years since the introduction Sydney’s sweeping 1:30am lockout laws, amongst a slew further restrictive regulations for event promoters and entertainment venues across the city.

Make sure you make the most this special night in Sydney’s history and celebrate the vibrancy our city and all its communities – for reasons well known, good things like this don’t last forever.
