The Canadian Musician Grimes Just Sold Her Digital Artwork For $5.8 Million

The Canadian singer-songwriter has recently sold her digital artwork from the WarNymphy collection for $5.8 million in a matter of 20 minutes according to a report published by the business insider.

The auction took place on Sunday on the NFT trading platform. The public could purchase the artwork through a bitcoin-like payment system known as a non-fungible token (short for NFT).

Grimes said that a percentage of the WarNymph NFT sales would be donated to an environmental NGO called Carbon180.  She sold around ten items: including winged baby goddesses floating in space and protecting the planet Mars. The tattooed babies made the headlines because of the artist’s boyfriend, billionaire, and tech-entrepreneur Ellon Musk, as he is obsessed with the idea of colonizing the planet Mars (see the attached picture below).

In the WarNymph series, Grimes and her brother Mac Boucher join forces and work on it together. Additionally, it is believed that WarNymphy will further be developed in her future works.

What makes NFT authentic is that it is encrypted with the artist’s signature, in this case, Grimes’ signature.

Grimes’ sales using NFT for cash out is a fascinating exposure opportunity for NFT as the artist has over 1.7 Million followers.

NFT has been one of the hottest topics on the internet. It is a new currency that proves ownership of digital products: be it videos, pictures, texts, memes, games, and so on. Several creators opted to use these authentic tokens. For instance, the Argentinian artist Andres Reisinger has sold his digital furniture for $450,000 and in less than 10 minutes.
