Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall joined forces in 2012 to form the duo The Chainsmokers. Their first release “Erase” featuring Indian star vocalist Priyanka Chopra was also their first success. The Chainsmokers were mainly active doing remixes, experimenting with a wide scope of styles from electro to rock and pop. Artists like Dragonette, Say Lou Lou, The Killers, Phoenik, Banks and Ellie Goulding requested to collaborate with them.
In 2013, The Chainsmokers released their second single, “The Rookie”, which didn’t make such a massive impact. Well aware of trends, The Chainsmokers seize the Selfie one for their 2014 single, “#Selfie”. The song rapidly climbed the charts in many countries, and reached the top twenty in the United States and the UK. In 2016, “Closer”, recorded in duo with Halsey, takes the same path, giving the duo a status of true hitmakers. In 2017, everyone wants to participate on their first album, Memories … Do Not Open, released in April 2017. Emily Warren, Louane or Coldplay are the ones selected with the latest signing the main single, “Something Just Like This” and nominated at the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
Beginning of 2018, they released “Sick Boy”, “You Owe Me” and “Everybody Hates Me”, followed by “Somebody” in April and “Side Effects” featuring Emily Warren in July 2018. This year, Billboard ranked the duo at number one on Billboard Dance 100 while Forbes estimated their revenue at $38M for the year 2017 only, making them the highest paid DJ’s last year.
