Let’s face it, dodgy ticket resellers, or ‘scalpers’ suck. Reselling tickets is fine and all, but the people who hike up the price like crazy are just scummy. Plain and simple. Well, it’s over for them now, with new laws being set in place on Friday that make the reselling of tickets for over 10% of the original price a serious no-no. Hoo-ray!
Fair Work Australia shared the news late last week, writing in a post across their social feeds that “it is now against the law to resell tickets for more than the original ticket cost, plus transaction costs that are capped at 10%”.
Scalpers who do not abide by this law and get caught can now be slapped with a max fine of $22,000 for a corporation or $11,000 for individual sellers. Not small change in any way, so hopefully this means your Splendour tickets won’t cost you an arm and leg moving forward.
