It has been a long four years since Jack Ü‘s heyday and EDM seems to move much faster nowadays. Now Diplo manages to sprout a new supergroup every few months, but his original side project team up with Skrillex was a particularly fun moment for dance music. The two superstar buddy DJ’s make a meal out of their short lived partnership, roping in headlining slots across the world, a Madison Square Garden affair, halftime performances, and of course a legendary performance at Burning Man. Skrillex and Diplo brought a special Playa-primed version of their Jack Ü collaboration to Camp Questionmark, and of course an unforgettable two-hour back-to-back set ensued.
Ah, the summer of 2014 — a simpler time. A few months prior, the two co-headlined Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Skrillex was just months off of his debut LP Recess, and Diplo was dominating the airwaves with “Express Yourself.” Everytime Jack Ü hit the decks it was a party. It was an amusing slice in time for dance music, so with this year’s edition of Burning Man now drawing to a close, a revisit to one of Jack Ü’s most memorable outings is certainly in order.
