Zeds Dead lay a walloping spin on Diplo’s ‘Close To Me’
Zeds Dead give Diplo, Ellie Goulding, and Swae Lee‘s unconventional love song, “Close To Me,” a bass upgrade in their new remix of the late 2018 collaboration. The Canadian bass gods pepper the rework with grainy dubstep drags in the song’s heaving breaks, while quickening the original’s tempo, and slightly inverting Goulding’s vocal contribution. While the trappings of Diplo’s original aren’t wholly absent in Zeds Dead’s remix, the Deadbeats helmers’ version is audibly distinctive from the original “Close to Me” mix that quickly made its way to radio airwaves last year.
As in past Zeds Dead productions, the flip’s climactic build and bass-laden drop serve as the focal points of the re-imaginative effort. The new “Close to Me” remix is classic Zeds Dead—forceful in its tone, and rife with musical energy that packs a heavy-handed punch. The new take will undoubtedly work its way through DJ sets this festival season, the revamp a potent showing made for loud listening.
