The Queen’s Gambit Is Set To Return As A Stage Musical

Some good news for The Queen’s Gambit’s Fans!

The limited Netflix mini-series is set to return as a stage musical.

Level Forward has acquired the theatrical stage rights to the 1983 novel by Walter Tevis.

Following the first month after the release of “The Queen’s Gambit,” the series was viewed by more than 62 million people worldwide, making it the most-watched series that month.

“The Queen’s Gambit” narrates the story of an orphan kid from Kentucky, Beth Harmon, who turns to be an international chess prodigy. The series walks us through Beth’s struggles with a male-dominated world. 

“It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater,” stated Level Forward CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz. “Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph. The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we’re looking forward to moving the project forward.”
Anya Taylor-Joy, who portrays Beth, won the Golden Globe and Critics awards for her outstanding performance. “The Queen’s Gambit” also won the Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards for best television series.
