DJ Matoom Sentenced To Jail For Breaching The COVID19 Emergency Decree By Holding A Party
The Thai-born actor and DJ, Techin Ploypetch 31, was sentenced to a one-month jail sentence following a birthday party held on Jan 8. The party took place in a hotel in the capital of Thailand, Bangkok.
The initial sentence of the court was a two-month jail term with a 20,000 Baht fine which is approximately 650 USD, however, he pleaded guilty, which made the court reduce the sentence by half.
Following hosting the birthday party, Techin tested positive for COVID19. The authorities alongside the doctors analyzed Techin’s travel records and found out that he caught the virus when he was in Chiang Mai, celebrating New Year’s Eve.
His birthday party alone spread the virus to at least 30 people, according to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.
Not only DJ Matoom will be charged, but all those party attendees will also be summoned to receive the appropriate sentence, said Pol Lt Col Adisorn.
Techin publicly apologized for his restless behavior and promised to cooperate with the investigation.
