First Listen: UZ and Hucci link up on 'Awakening' [Stream]
Trap legend UZ and Hucci make for an idyllic production pair. Together, these two genre originators have put forth a stirring record called “Awakening,” and the result is a piece that is simultaneously nuanced and heavy hitting.
“Awakening” is free-flowing and even a bit on the experimental side. It eases listeners gently it, eventually expanding into twinkling synth progressions and viscous basslines. While its drops are heavy, they stand out for their more subtle approach and off-kilter rhythms. The record pushes the trap envelope toward a more experimental direction, but one that is still accessible to a wide listener base.
Of the track, UZ states, “Since we are 2 originators of the genre I think a collaboration between us was way overdue. Hucci sent me the idea a few month back and I let it sit for a few weeks, once I was ready I went to the studio and really took the track to the next level speeding up the bpm a little and giving it the energy that it was missing. I really think this has become a banger and will definitely become a classic from 2 of the OGs.”
