Hot Chip announce new album and drop 'Hungry Child' music video

After four long years, Hot Chip will return with their seventh studio album A Bath Full of Ecstasy on June 21. The English indie-electronic band made the announcement on April 4 while simultaneously releasing the lead single “Hungry Child” and its accompanying music video. For A Bath Full of Ecstasy, Hot Chip recruited outside producers including Philippe Zdar (Cassius, Phoenix) and Rodaidh McDonald (the XX, David Byrne, Sampha).

Hot Chip does what they do best on “Hungry Child,” meshing indie with electronic in a dreamy, yet groovy number, emitting heavy summer vibes. The music video incorporates the single in a fun twist as a song that follows around Martin Starr and Milana Vayntrub, a couple going through a rough patch in their relationship. Starr and Vayntrub also previously acted together in Silicon Valley where their characters Gilfoyle and Tara dated briefly.

In a hilarious sequence of events, Starr and Vayntrub struggle to figure out how to make the music stop as it relentlessly plays and causes surrounding people such as their neighbor and their taxi driver to complain. One person shouts, “It’s coming from you millennials!” They even take their “problem” to a therapist who suggests the lyrics may be the solution. Upon the climax of the video, the couple experience the lyrics literally and begin having heart attacks — their movements hilariously convulsing to the beat before finally admitting their relationship is over and consequently silencing the music. An entertaining music video and an undeniably sublime production, “Hungry Child” gives a proper taste of what’s to come on A Bath Full of Ecstasy.
