QUIX impresses with four-track minimalist trap project, ‘IDK [Vol. 1]’

Simply put, QUIX‘s new EP is nasty. The Dim Mak-released project, IDK [Vol. 1], is a four-track piece of work that finds the New Zealand producer adding unique grimy and distorted sound design atop modern trap music arrangements and bass sonics. A dark and hedonistic allure surround the audio, perfect for its Day of the Dead release.

“Huhhh” is the first track from the extended play, dropping listeners on their head with sustained, squirming bass that tickles the high ends while providing that thick bed of bass on the lows. Metallic synths cascade on the second drop, giving off a slowed-down feeling that melts the mind.

“FON” is fun, with a drum line build and grimy sound design that plays well with the flippant, complex melodic percussion elements.

“Fiji Day 4” bring an Asian melody in the verse down to a blast of white noise and funky bass rhythm.

“My house is IKEA” takes a drum ‘n’ bass approach to wrap up the eclectic-sounding project.

QUIX is rounding out the final dates of his extensive Force Of Nature Tour through Dec. 6.
