Skrillex drops first solo track in almost 5 years
It’s exciting to hear some solo Skrillex music for the first time in half a decade as he works towards finishing his next album.
Titled Kliptown Empyrean, the OWSLA owner released the new track fairly casually with an Ableton direct to SoundCloud upload. He is clearly not worried about getting this across all the usual channels like Spotify and Apple Music.
The song has some familiar elements to the music that gave him a name in the first place. Take for instance the sweet vocal samples he’s chosen, reminiscent of First Of The Year (Equinox) and My Name Is Skrillex with the almost bubblegum tone. The overall tone of the song is more ambient and not as hard as when he was younger head banging on stages.
In recent years, Skrillex has been largely releasing collaborations with the likes of Boys Noize, Diplo, Justin Bieber, Ty Dolla $ign and more.
