UK punters not showing up to gigs
The Guardian has reported that up to four in every 10 tickets isn’t showing up to shows in the UK.
Sacha Lord, the founder of The Warehouse Project in Manchester quoted, “We’re seeing a big drop-off, even at really hot, sold-out shows. It’s happening every single night, and it’s affecting all artists.”
Artist manager Graeme Stewart continued, “You are still getting money coming in from the tickets, but money is being lost on bar spend and security costs”.
The drop off is largely being pointed to the most recent outbreak of COVID and punters hesitation to be in contained spaces. Others have however weighed in saying that some of these event were organised so long ago, that fans may have forgotten they bought a ticket in the first place.
Could this be an early warning sign for Australia’s nightlife?
