Zedd Drops First Single From Upcoming Album ‘Telos,’ “Out of Time” (ft. Bea Miller)
GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, DJ, and producer Zedd released his anticipated new single “Out of Time,” featuring rising star Bea Miller, today (Friday, June 21). This is the first single from Zedd’s forthcoming album, Telos, which will be released on August 30. Telos will be his first album in nearly a decade.
On Wednesday, June 19, Zedd hosted an Instagram live stream where he answered fan questions while signing Telos vinyl records, which will be available for purchase soon. The multi-platinum producer discussed how this album combines his new style, inspired by his experiences over the years, with his original pop and electro-house sound. “Out of Time” embodies this blend and fits the latest Zedd era. The song features atmospheric strings and melodic synths, creating a mystical dance-pop anthem that sets the stage perfectly for Zedd’s third album.
“I started writing “Out Of Time” back in 2015, making it the longest time I’ve ever worked on a song”, says Zedd on the writing of the record. “It was and still is one of my favorite compositions I’ve ever created. I made an intro for my live show based on this chord progression, but was never able to finish it. Bea was the missing piece of the puzzle; her voice added an emotional depth that completed the song. “Out Of Time” really encapsulates the DNA of the Telos album, which is why I chose it to be the song that introduces this new era.”
On the collaboration, Bea Miller says, “I have been a fan of Zedd’s music for so many years, it’s truly such an honor to have worked with him on this song. I think it’s so special and I’m still pinching myself that I’ve had the privilege of being a part of this project.”
The song’s opening will evoke memories of Zedd’s sets from 2017 to 2022, with its beautiful piano and violin chords. As the medley fades slightly, Bea Miller’s soulful voice emerges, blending seamlessly with the instrumental music. True to Zedd’s style, the chorus features a sensational drop of bass and electro elements. In the second verse, his classic orchestral sound transitions into an electric orchestra, layering various elements to perfectly complement Miller’s voice.
The bridge before the second chorus is a standout moment, with a pop/slow melodic symphony that feels like a personal journey with Zedd and Bea Miller. This, I believe, is the essence of the entire album. The 3-minute and 42-second song evokes a range of emotions, from happiness to sadness, and ultimately, a sense of relief. It is a powerful song.
