Sydney Karaoke institution Ding Dong Dang has closed

In what will sadden a good portion of Sydney-siders, karaoke institution Ding Dong Dang has closed it’s doors for good.

News of the closure spread through social media after the bright neon Ding Dong Dong sign was pictured on the pavement out the front of their business in Surry Hills. Surrounding it was a raft of building materials as the place was stripped bare… probably a good thing knowing the debauchery that went down since its inception!

The spot often makes any must-visit karaoke lists including Broadsheet who fondly described the joint;

Intelligently located right near Central Station, the charmingly shonky karaoke bar is a rite of passage for anyone who’s stayed out long enough to see the sun come up. It’s full of kitsch furniture and tacky soundtracks for you to sing along to. It even serves prawn chips out the front.

According to a story on The Australian it has been Covid-19 restrictions that pushed the late-night haunt to call it a day. There’s a glimmer of hope it’s getting a big ole renovation but knowing the state of Sydney and the war on nightlife it’s not looking too likely.

Pour one out while blasting out a version of Billy Idols “White Wedding” for this sad, sad day!
